Program Requirements

The Actuarial Science Minor requires the successful completion of 24 credit hours of the following coursework or their equivalents (Click here: for the catalog entry of the actuarial science minor ):

  • BSAD 329 – Principles of Finance Credits: 3 hours
  • ECON 200 – Principles of Macroeconomics Credits: 3 hours
  • ECON 201 – Principles of Microeconomics Credits: 3 hours
  • MATH 330 – Mathematics of Finance Credits: 3 hours
  • STAT 290 – Statistics Credits: 3 hours
  • STAT 570 – Mathematical Probability and Statistics I Credits: 3 hours
  • STAT 571 – Mathematical Probability and Statistics II Credits: 3 hours

Choose one of the following:

  • ECON 373 – Econometrics Credits: 3 hours
  • STAT 378 – Linear Regression/Time Series Credits: 3 hours

Additional Requirements

The requirements for candidates becoming actuaries include completion of the first two Actuarial Exams and completion of the courses that constitute the Validation of Educational Experience. The courses that prepare students for the first two exams are STAT 290, STAT 570, STAT 571, and MATH 330. Students meet the Validation of Educational Experience requirement by taking Society of Actuaries–approved courses in the areas of economics, corporate finance, and applied statistics.
